An adult star who decided to turn her back on the industry’s standards of female attractiveness found that embracing her own identity made her more popular than ever
An adult star was stunned to find ditching makeup and the shaver made her more money than ever before.
Demi Sutra had grown frustrated with racism in the adult entertainment industry and decided to speak out about it – only to find work drying up. "I named names and I named companies," she explained. "Everyone blacklisted me and I didn't give a f***.”
But while mainstream porn had closed its doors, it was the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic when the OnlyFans phenomenon was taking off in a big way. “Before OnlyFans I literally thought that my worth was so very little in this industry,” Demi told podcaster Holly Randall.

She then decided to abandon the porn industry’s idea of perfection. “I literally stopped shaving my armpits, I stopped putting on makeup and I just had my hair natural – or I would change my hair to whatever colour,” she continued.
“This all was because of a depressive episode,” Demi explains. “But I made more money doing that and dropping the …ideologies of perfection that porn had put onto me. I thought I had to be very cookie cutter, but the less I did the more money and the more of a reaction I got.”
Demi had quit the business a few times in the past for an underlying reason, saying: “Every guy I've ever dated has made me quit my sex job.” She got her start at Twin Peaks – which she describes as a “breastaurant” in New Mexico.
“Twin Peaks is like comparable to Hooters," she explained. "You needed to sit with the guests, and flirt with the guys and so I f***ing loved it – I was having a blast.”
Demi had thought about adult films more than once, but thought they weren’t for her. "I always looked at porn stars and they always had these like huge t**s and like long blonde hair at the time and I thought that was just it,” she continued.
But getting up on stage at a strip club’s amateur night made her decide that it was the career for her. She recalled: “I remember standing up on that stage like at this point I had gotten the heels and the little stripper outfit.
"I stood up and I looked around and everyone's f***ing eyes are on me and at that point I thought “Yes! This is f***ing power!”
But it was only her massive falling-out with half the industry that Demi decided to embrace her own identity and show her fans who she really was. Ironically, that change led to the offer of a contract with industry giant Brazzers.
Demi says her new, authentic look carves out a unique identity that has given her more star power than she ever had when she was trying to fit in with the industry standard.
