Aella Martin was brought up in an extremely protective conservative Christian environment and has explained how she became a sex worker within a year of leaving home
A conservative Christian who became one of the top adult stars on OnlyFans says that for her, escorting is less “dehumanising” than interacting with her fans online.
Aella Martin explains that she ended up in porn because her parents were too protective of her as a young girl: “When you're raised a Christian conservative home they don't prepare you for the real world. I was homeschooled and expected to be a housewife …but I got into the real world and my options were not great.”
Aella, 31, spent a year working in a factory, making very little money and sleeping on a friend’s sofa before someone suggested that she looked into webcamming. “I made a lot of money in the first night, and one thing led to another,” she said.

Aella explains that this radical change in her lifestyle happened after she lost her Christian faith. She told the Triggernometry podcast that, growing up, she never met anyone who wasn’t a Christian. But after leaving home she quite quickly decided that she didn’t believe in what had been drilled into her as a child.
“After I finally left home and I briefly attempted to do college,” she says, “I was surrounded by people who weren't Christian. They were living life and being happy and fine and it was all okay somehow. That allowed some part of my subconscious to realise that maybe this is all false.”
From webcamming, escorting was just one more “small step,” she says. And she says that the one-to-one connection she has with her escorting clients is healthier than the “dehumanising” interactions she has on OnlyFans.
“After I did escorting and I went back to OnlyFans,” she says, “It just felt dehumanising in both directions. I feel like I'm dehumanising my customers and my customers are dehumanising me when I'm online.
“But in person – to to the degree that I can safely and comfortably feel love for my client I allow myself to do so. I really like feeling as if a part of me really cares about them in that moment and that's the thing that I just can't experience with OnlyFans.”
She says that chatting to someone through text messages doesn’t allow people to “touch souls” the way that they can in person. In terms of finding someone to settle down with, she adds, she’s not concerned that someone will reject her because of her sex work past.
“It’s never been a problem in my life,” Aella says. “Because I'm polyamorous and there's a whole subculture thriving subculture of people who are pretty sexually open and don't mind it. In my friend groups in like especially in the [San Francisco Bay area] when I live, people don't give a f***.
“I'll say ‘Hey, I’m a sex worker on dates and the guy will just say ‘Oh yeah, my ex-girlfriend was a sex worker too …she really liked it.’ lt's a very common conversation – it's just not a thing that registers as an issue really.”
